Team USA’s Michelle Tumolo Joins Oregon as Assistant

The new Oregon lacrosse coaching staff gained more elite credentials Tuesday with the addition of assistant coach Michelle Tumolo.

UO head coach Katrina Dowd, a five-time NCAA champion as a player and coach, named Tumolo to one of her two assistant positions. Tumolo played in the Final Four three times in four years as a player at Syracuse from 2010-13, then spent two seasons as an assistant at Florida before returning to the Orange as an assistant this past spring.

Tumolo will help coordinate offense for the Ducks, as she did with both the Gators and Orange. Florida led the NCAA in scoring in 2015 with 15.52 goals per game, and Syracuse scored 314 goals in 2016, second-most in the nation.

“We’re excited to welcome Michelle to the Oregon lacrosse family,” Dowd said. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and passion for the game that is unmatched. Her competitive drive as a player, and now as a top young coach, will be a perfect fit in helping take Oregon lacrosse to the next level.”

Like Dowd, Tumolo was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award as college player of the year, in 2012. Despite having her senior season cut short due to injury in 2013, Tumolo finished her collegiate career with 141 goals and 137 assists, ranking in Syracuse’s career top 10 for goals, assists and points. Her assist total ranked ninth in NCAA history at the time Tumolo wrapped up her career.

Tumolo will officially join the UO staff on July 5, after playing with the U.S. Women’s National Team in England this week. Tumolo also has been invited to try out for the national team that will compete for the World Cup in 2017.

“Michelle’s experience as an attacker on the U.S. National team and her time spent as both a player and coach at Syracuse University will make a huge impact on the skill development of current and future Ducks,” Dowd said. “She will help bring an exciting and dynamic brand of lacrosse to Oregon.”

Players ages 8 to 18 will have a chance to learn from the new UO staff when the Ducks host their development camp next month. An overnight camp for players 13 to 18 will be held July 25-28, with day campers 8 to 12 invited to participate July 26-27. Registration information is available at
