Head coach Richie Meade announced the hiring of John Haus as assistant coach for Furman University lacrosse.
Haus, who spent the 2015 season as an assistant at High Point University, succeeds Jon Birsner, who accepted the head coach position at VMI in June.
“We are excited to have John join our staff,” said Meade. “He has a lot of credibility and was a great college player. He did a very good job at High Point and we’re very confident he’s going to work well with our guys and make us better.”
In the one season that Haus spent on the sideline for High Point he helped guide them to their first NCAA tournament birth in program history, and helped them gain a Southern Conference tournament title.
Haus was a standout player at the University of Maryland, where he was a three time All-American and made a pair of appearances in the National Championship game, in 20011 and 2012.
In addition to his playing experience, Haus has developed a strong coaching background, working at a number of lacrosse camps, as well as with the Lebanon Valley Lightning Lacrosse Club. His father, current head coach at Lebanon Valley College John Haus III, is the former head coach at the University of North Carolina and Johns Hopkins University, and also led Washington College to the 1998 NCAA Division III Championship.
